I take a holistic approach to therapy. Physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of each person are taken into account so that healing and wellness can be felt on every level. I take an eclectic approach to therapy, applying techniques tailored to the client based on their unique needs. I utilize EMDR as an efficient tool to assist clients in reprocessing troublesome fears, grief, and traumatic memories. I also offer mindfulness, reiki, and meditation exercises in order to help clients become more grounded, connected, relaxed and in tune with their experiences and healing. I take an empowerment approach to therapy, whereby each person may come to realize their personal potential to transform their lives for the better. My primary clinical interests include, but are not limited to, grief, stress and trauma, anxiety, depression, identity development, LGBTQ issues, major life transitions, and spirituality.

I help you identify and the solve the problem or issue that is keeping you from functioning at your best. We may use talk therapy and then if there are mood issues, like anxiety, depression or PTSD, I use EEG Neurofeedback to train your brain to self regulate itself back to optimum functioning. With children I start out with play therapy and then also let them do Neurofeedback. Years of clinical experience has shown that Neurofeedback works well with ADHD, impulse control disorders, autism spectrum disorders, or abuse trauma. I have developed two specialties that respond well to EEG Neurofeedback: autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and PTSD. I have found that for ASD, I need to screen for biomedical issues first, and then train the brain via Neurofeedback. For victims of trauma with PTSD (and/or TBI) Neurofeedback works exceptionally well. My combination of using problem solving counseling and training the brain with EEG Neurofeedback gives my clients a two for one therapy opportunity.

Feeling alone, helpless, depressed or confused? The primary goal of therapy is to help empower you to make appropriate, healthier, life-enhancing choices day-to-day. Sessions are private and confidential, except in matters of safety, as mandated by ethical codes and/or law. Clients however, reserve the right to share session information or treatment notes with others by written consent. As client, you are the expert of your experiences and with this in mind, therapy is individually tailored, within an appropriate framework of psychotherapy. Specific psycho-educational information is provided to assist you in the attainment, development, and enhancement of coping skills. To provide effective treatment, personally-tailored treatment plans are developed for clients. Treatment is available for a wide variety of mental health, personal, and relational issues. Therapy begins with broad-based approach initially, to better understand client issues. As therapy proceeds, focus is increasingly aimed at resolution of stuck points. Strong advocate for educational growth and pursuit of knowledge, whether for client or self. Teach psychology as adjunct at local college, learning more from my students than ever imagined. Interested in hearing about your goals, passions, hobbies, in life. Share your genealogy, historical facts etc. if you like!

  • Jean Sutton, MA, LPC, BCC

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor trained in individual, marriage and family counseling. I have a desire to help people navigate their emotional lives, understand and appreciate their personal development, and discover their own power. This can mean confronting issues of depression, anxiety, identity, grief or relationship problems. In working one on one or with couples, I enjoy the opportunity to help people embrace who they are and offer tools to engage them in their own growth. Confidence, integrity, authenticity, and awareness in relationships at work and home are just a few of the results of this focused work. I spent 20 years as a minister in the local church, and understand the life of ministry and the need for developing coping skills. I enjoy helping clergy develop their self-care skills, and offer a place to focus on oneself and one's needs -often missing in the lives of ministers. I am an ordained minister with training in spiritual direction and welcome clients from all faiths, as well as those from no faith background. I believe this enables me to create a safe, accepting, and nonjudgmental environment for clients in need of a place for expression of difficult emotion, uncomfortable thoughts, and relationship changes.
