Life can present many road blocks that can be life changing. What makes life interesting is at one point or another, we all have been there trying to make sense of what has occurred. These road blocks can represent changes in relationships, career goals, loss of love ones, and internal conflicts. If you feel that life is challenging, please feel free to contact me so that we can tear down the road blocks and build a path that is worth walking. I specialize in working with individuals who have struggled with addictions as well as those who struggle with mental health. As a therapist, I like to assist those in identifying the challenges that they are faced with and to help move toward change and solutions. I believe that individuals can grow and become empowered. I use a variety of strategies in addressing problems encountered. If you feel that therapy is out of reach due to financial barriers, please contact me so that I can work with you. I do not want individuals to feel as if they cannot engage in therapy for this reason, as everyone should be able to seek therapy and to begin a life of change.

Emotional or behavioral challenges during childhood and adolescence can be very disruptive to not only the child but the whole family. I have experience helping children and families develop effective coping skills quickly and get the balanced, happy life they deserve. Also, I provide services during evenings and weekends so that my clients don't have to miss school and to accommodate parents' busy schedules. I specialize in working with youth experiencing all kinds of difficulties, including trauma-related symptoms, anxiety, depression, oppositional behaviors, concentration problems, and trouble managing anger. I also work with adolescents/young adults struggling to transition to adulthood. Many youth find that launching into independence can be very difficult and I can help with that process. One area where I can be particularly helpful is parenting a difficult child. Parents can learn how to handle their child's problem behaviors with the right help! Strengthening family relationships is a passion of mine, and for many families it is a great need.

  • Laurel O'Neal Thornton, MA, LPC, NCC, EMDR-T, ALPS

I consider myself a neuro-psychotherapist. I enjoy working with people who want to feel differently and are ready for the things that they know are true to feel true. I enjoy working with any age individual. I help facilitate change for those who would like to have the stresses or large events of the past not have so much power and control over them so that they can focus on the present and are able to feel more hopeful about the future. I specialize in EMDR and helping people reprocess stressful events from the past and present, as well as, fears about the future. I also use techniques from REBT, TA, and Reality Therapy/Choice theory. I believe that the brain is amazingly resilient and therefore work to set a safe environment for growth and healing. I take a holistic approach to healing and work with the whole person not just a set of symptoms.
